My Investment Return 2008 - Part 4 - Stock

In this little series of article I'd like to take the opportunity to review the investment return of my portfolios.

In part 1 and part 2 I mentioned my disappointing return on both of my 401K and Roth IRA which are both invested in mutual fund. Part 3 is on my active stock investment in IRA which had a nice 26% return.  The next and the last portfolio I'd like to go over is my stock which is the largest of my investments.

The year 2008 had been a turbulant year.  The volatile market drove my stock portfolio down as much as 50% and up as much as 100%.  I did step into land mine such as Lehman Brothers.  However at the end on 12/31/2008 I got a great turnaround in December and ends the year with a 36% gain.  Well 36% may not be too eye catching during the bull market yet considering most of my mutual funds were minus 30%, finishing up 36% is actually not bad.
Overall Return 2008: +36%
